United Nations "Messenger of Peace" Jane Goodall, speaking at the WEF:

"We cannot hide away from human population growth... All these things we talk about wouldn't be a problem if there was the size of population that there was 500 years ago."

500 years ago, the human population was roughly 450 million, almost 95% smaller than today's population.
