As Hitler struggled with setbacks on all fronts and the Japanese were held in check by the Americans despite heavy U.S. casualties, the Allied leaders faced a different challenge. While Churchill and Roosevelt enjoyed a strong working relationship, Joseph Stalin, the Russian leader, had long been viewed with suspicion rather than trust. With the invasion of France looming, the Teheran Conference became a complex web of diplomatic negotiations.
