Jan. 3, 1965 - Quarterback Charley Johnson hit little Billy Gambrell with two touchdown passes for St. Louis, one a bomb covering 80 yards, but the Cardinals had to hold on for dear life in the final period to save a 24-17 victory over Green Bay in the fifth NFL Playoff Bowl game in Miami.
A record crowd of 56,218 saw the Cardinals, a one-touchdown underdog, score the first Eastern victory in this game of NFL runners-up. In the previous four games, Detroit had won three and Green Bay one for the West.
