William Tyler Wiseman
William Tyler Wiseman Director Bio:
William Tyler Wiseman grew up on a farm in rural PA, but he always wanted to work in film.
Because of his distance from the industry he never considered the idea of being behind the
camera, or even the pen. In such a small town, his only connection to the art was performing in
local theater. He excelled at this, and got the idea to be an actor.
After studying theater he set out to Los Angeles for a career as an actor. He soon realized that
was not his path, and wanted to be behind the camera, and so he set out to tell a story about his
hometown. With essentially no experience, and an incredible amount of determination and
passion, he began to make his first feature film.
What came of it is his Feature Film Debut, MOONWATER, which is currently being submitted to
film festivals.
Director Statement:
Growing up in Bradford, PA, life was microscopic--a far cry from Hollywood. I didn't have
exposure to large cultural institutions like theaters, concert halls, or even book stores (nor the
patience to read). What I did have were movies. Movies are what allowed me to plug me into
the larger questions of what it meant to be a human, and in turn, what it meant to be human in
the rural, impoverished area I grew up in. A place that depended on the land they owned & the
community around them for survival. The goal of "Moonwater" is to tell the story of that
community that raised me: a blue-collar America that experiences a tougher, simpler existence,
and to treat them with the emotional compassion that they deserve.
Over time, I realized I would never have the opportunity to tell this story unless I told it myself.
So I took on that challenge. I showed up in Bradford with what felt like the smallest budget in the
world and a team of people who were just as passionate as I was. What I didn't expect was the
way my small hometown rallied around me to make this story possible. These people who have
so little were willing to share whatever they had to build 'Moonwater' into the powerful story it is.
From old family friends who I haven't spoken to in years to small businesses, this group of
people ensured that not only my story was told, but our story. Our acknowledgment to the small
town struggles that forged us.
