Prayer. Today’s reading for Thursday November 22, 2024 is from II Kings 19:14-19 about Sennacherib's threat and Hezekiah's Prayer. Sennacherib was the king of the Neo-Assyrian Empire from the death of his father Sargon II in 705 BC to his own death in 681 BC. In 701 BC, Sennacherib’s armies lay siege to Jerusalem.

Sennacherib recorded his account of the siege, which states in part, "As for Hezekiah ... like a caged bird I shut up in Jerusalem his royal city. I barricaded him with outposts, and exit from the gate of his city I made taboo for him."
