As the Christmas Season approaches, I began to wonder where exactly our current Christmas traditions come from. Most would tie Christmas traditions to the pagan celebration of Saturnalia, which was transformed by the Holy Roman Empire into a Christian celebration around the Winter Solstice. However, in my research I stumbled across a man who, after pioneering American politics and commerce, almost single-handedly brought forth the concept of Santa Claus, based off the Dutch Sinterklaas, creating many of the Christmas traditions still in use today. We will look to peal back this history, focusing on the secret societies of Tammany, through the early 1800s, unveiling the true nature of the most famous fictional character of Christmas. I'd also be remiss to mention that l am going through a very difficult time at the moment, and could use all of your thoughts and prayers.
