In this heartfelt episode of The Lavigne Show, we welcome Jonny Rawton, a close family friend of Kayla’s family, to shed light on her tragic story and the critical issues surrounding mental health care in Canada.

Kayla, a vibrant and loving individual, faced immense struggles with her mental health. Seeking refuge, she turned to Bluewater Health Sarnia for support. However, despite reaching out for help in a manic and vulnerable state, Kayla was dismissed and sent home, feeling unheard and unsupported. Tragically, just hours after being "treated and released," Kayla passed away.

Her story is not an isolated incident but part of a potential pattern of medical negligence, systemic failures, and gaps in mental health care. Together with Jonny, we’ll discuss the mission of Kayla's Corner to create a safe space for sharing experiences and advocating for better mental health support and healthcare reform as well as the standards of care at Bluewater Health and the issues leading to such outcomes.

Kayla’s story is a call to action for all of us to demand accountability, compassion, and systemic change in how we care for those in crisis.
