OP2411-29-3
Intelligence staff for Chernarus 33rd Separate Mountain Motorized Rifle Brigade, since 10 days before, had been following communications patterns for the separatists since the last engagement in Werferlingen.

What they found was that the separatists were having problems in assembling sufficient numbers of infantry and armor for a subsequent operation. Approximately three km southwest of Behnsdorf, separatist commanders selected the village of Hodingen which sits north of the river. Their reasoning was that Hodingen would be easier to defend against counterattacks were they to take over the village.

3rd Battalion quickly assembled a task force consisting of four BTR rifle squads, three tanks and one BRDM scout car. The task force marched to Hodingen with the BRDM scout car designated as Scout 1 as the task force's screening force.

Scout 1 encountered a Wagner Group operated Mi-8 gunship, which was forced down by heavy machine gun fire. The BTR rifle sections had dismounted one km away from the river crossing, with Command Squad continuing to advance into the village.

The tactical plan for the defense of Hodingen was for Command Squad to advance to a location on the northern edge of the village, Scout 1 occupying the northeast edge of the village, and Tank 2 occupying the northwest edge of the village. The other three rifle squads were ordered to deploy in town with orders to engage any enemy forces which attempted to infiltrate and take over the village.

Initial attacks came from the northwest in the form of Spanish regulars, which then were attacked by friendly 122mm artillery, and destroyed. Following on, a Serbian rifle unit also attacked from the same direction and they, too, were destroyed by friendly 122mm artillery.

Command Squad intercepted a pair of enemy BRDM Scout cars which were trying to rush into the village, but were destroyed by infantry antitank fire. Commander ordered Command Squad to dig in at that location, as they engaged enemy infantry attacks from the northwest. Included in those attacks was a second Serbian rifle unit which was attacked by artillery and direct fire from Command Squad and Tank 1. The Serbian unit retreated back to the northwest after suffering heavy casualties.

Meanwhile, in the northeast, Scout 1 had engaged and driven back enemy infantry attacks coming from the northeast.

Operations staff for Third Battalion determined the defensive operation in Hodingen complete, and ordered the task force to return to base.

Losses were light. Command Squad lost three, 2nd Squad lost two, and 3rd Squad lost one.

Field counts of enemy losses included four BRDM scout cars, one Mi-8 gunship, one unidentified tank, and one BMP.

Intelligence staff for 3rd Battalion, reading commanders' reports from the engagement in Hodingen confirmed that the separatists were short in infantry and in heavy tracked vehicles. This dearth of forces prevented the separatists from taking over the town, allowing friendly forces to withdraw in good order.
