800 year old medieval market at Smithfield to close and become ‘mixed-use cultural development’
Two of London’s most significant historic locations Smithfield and Billingsgate Markets - that date to medieval times - are to close forever as the site has been earmarked for new homes and what local authorities have called a ‘mixed-use cultural development’.
