Canning and Cultivating: Building a Legacy of Abundance

This Thanksgiving season, the Real Power Family is reflecting on the value of hard work, planning ahead, and making the most of what we’ve grown. From harvesting apples and pears to canning homemade applesauce, elderberry jelly, and grape juice, we’re turning the fruits of our labor into resources that will serve our family well beyond the holiday season.

Lila is hard at work preserving the harvest, ensuring our pantry is stocked with healthy, homegrown food. Ethan is up in the trees picking apples while our bees are busy producing the honey that sweetens our recipes and our lives. Every step is a testament to the importance of self-sufficiency, family teamwork, and preparing for the future.

Thanksgiving is more than a meal—it’s a time to give thanks for what we’ve built and the opportunities we’ve been given. It’s about using what we have wisely, turning challenges into opportunities, and laying the groundwork for a stronger tomorrow.

𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬:

𝗚𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Thanksgiving is the perfect time to reflect on the rewards of hard work and the importance of resourcefulness.

𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗢𝗳𝗳: With methods like canning and drying, the harvest doesn’t end when the growing season does. We’re making sure nothing goes to waste.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: As Deven always says, “The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The next best time is today.” Success in homesteading—and life—is all about forward thinking.

𝗦𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗦𝘂𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹: Whether it’s a pantry full of homemade goods or lessons in resilience, we believe in building systems that pay dividends long-term.

This Thanksgiving season, we’re not just giving thanks—we’re building on the lessons of the past year and planning for the future.
