On November 07, 2024, at approximately 1354 hours, two IPD officers responded to the Oval Spring Apartments regarding a physical domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, IPD officers contacted the calling party in the parking lot of the complex. After collecting information from the calling party, it was determined a domestic assault had occurred.

Officers knocked on the front door of the apartment with the Oval Spring Apartment manager. Contact was made with an adult male party, who let officers into the apartment to continue their investigation.

One officer located an adult female in the bedroom closet who was holding an infant. Officers spoke to the female for over 11 minutes while she was holding the infant. Officers tried multiple times to convince the female to release the infant. The repeated attempts failed, and she exited the closet, walked past the officers, and sat on the bed. She retrieved the concealed large knife kitchen-style knife and charged at the officers, while still holding the infant. As a result, one officer fired at the female and both she and the infant sustained fatal injuries.
