How to make elderberry syrup

Christmas is coming, and it seems we get sick around then; probably due to all the traveling and extra sugar. So, I want to keep us healthy by taking some elderberry now and every day until Christmas is over. Even if my kids don't like it, Momma has NO time to get sick.

I'm guessing it costed me under $20 to make this and should last me until the holidays are over (unless more in the family take it).

Elderberries are great for boosting your immune system, and helping ease the symptoms of a cold if you get one.

Recipe came from Mountain Rose Herbs
2 cups dried elderberries (I get mine from Azure Standard)
4 cups water
1 cinnamon stick
Ginger (I used fresh but you can add 2-3 teaspoon powdered)

Simmer for 30-40 mins, strain, cool and add 1 cup honey and 1 cup alcohol (optional)
