The protesters are also calling for the cancellation of elections, which they consider rigged. Authorities have blocked streets with containers and partially blocked access to the internet. Police have used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the demonstrators.

According to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, five people have already died - four police officers and one civilian.
