Spores Galore!

The puffball mushroom, particularly the giant puffball (Calvatia gigantea), is known for its remarkable spore production capabilities, producing trillions of spores during its lifecycle.

A single mature giant puffball can release up to 7 trillion spores when fully ripe. These spores are stored within the mushroom's interior, which is filled with a spongy, spore-packed mass.

When disturbed by wind, animals, or human interaction, the puffball releases a visible cloud of spores into the air. This incredible spore output increases the likelihood of successful reproduction by dispersing spores over vast areas, making puffballs among the most prolific spore producers in the fungal kingdom.
