One, Two, Three! (1961) Classic Movie Night | Understanding Russia & Nazis in America Post WW2

I'd like to screen One, Two, Three (1961) by Billy Wilder & starring James Cagney as an American Coca-Cola executive trying to expand into Russia Post WW2. This film offers us a glimpse at how Russians & Americans perceived one another through a satirical & humorous lens. Since this film's humor is equally at the expense of everyone & quite funny...I thought we should use it as a way to discuss the dynamics between Southern Americans vs 'Yankee' Northernerns for example...and how that influenced how some perceived 'Communists'...it was surprising to me to learn how friendly America was towards Nazis 'during' WW2, let alone after it...and this movie touches on that as well.

Again, don't expect the film to be mind-blowing deep...but I think after we discuss Nazism in America both pre & post WW2, it will place everything in better context.

We need to understand this because there are some in our country that are seeking to start WW3 with Russia. Operation Paperclip was a bit of a ruse on the public…considering that we allowed over 400,000 German/Italian Nazis into America in upwards of 700+ camps around 1944/1945…if you know the stories behind those ‘camps’…they were practically Nazi settlements. Many of those people not only never left America, they were allowed to stay with cover identities and their stolen Nazi money.

Since Americans don’t know they are living among these Nazis…it’s difficult to understand what is going on right now. They are ‘in control’ and their method is to do it badly on purpose because they are going somewhere else and plan to leave Americans who ‘don’t know’ the plan by the wayside. You won’t have access to their underground *underwater* facilities…moreover, they are aggressively trying to steer America’s ship into every world power’s Iceberg…doesn’t that make more sense than what you are being told?

You must know they’d be pulling the rip cord once they were caught…our current reality is what that rip cord being pulled looks like.

Tonight, though meant to be lighthearted in tone (this being Thanksgiving in America), is still a serious topic and I will treat it as such…but yes folks, this is also a great Billy Wilder film. Hopefully in pointing out our differences and everyone taking a bit of poking…no one is spared…we can learn a bit more about this complex relationship American’s have with Russia, the Germans & Nazis who hid both here and globally…who we often do ‘not see’ despite how close they are. Perhaps we should take note on what this film teaches us.
