Static Reps are a form of Isometric training while under load...a serious load generally 30% higher than weights one can use in a conventional set taken to positive (concentric) failure.
While Statics have been around for decades, this form of training was reinvigorated as a growth stimulator by Mr Heavy Duty Mike Mentzer in several of his later writings as he experimented with clients.
