When France Left NATO

On March 7 1966, General de Gaulle informed the United States of his intention to leave NATO's integrated command. He had explained this decision to the French a few days earlier, in a speech on February 21.

This speech is crucial in our day, as nations seek to gain sovereignty from the hegemony of the United States.

But such independence requires great strength of character in a nations political leaders, a trait severely lacking in all Western leaders and politicians, who know only how to be lackeys of power.

When France lost its strength of character, it dutifully returned to NATO, in 2007, under the presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy.

No European politician—today—would dare suggest such a separation from NATO.
