Week 8: Part 2 Black Bear Encounter & Exploring Area

In Week 8: Part 2, we set out on an unforgettable adventure to explore a new beach by kayak. The pristine shore surprised us with signs of recent human activity, but its beauty stole the show. We soaked up the sun, relishing the rare opportunity to recharge before the next round of storms rolled in.

The next day brought clear skies, we headed out on the boat to check trail cams and drop a crab trap, hoping for a fresh catch to bring home. However, the trip took a nerve-wracking turn when Emilie spotted a massive black bear near the river. Being so remote and without a rifle on hand on this trip, the encounter hit differently than ever before for her. Safety came first, so we decided to retreat and regroup back to the boat.

This week was a mix of awe, beauty, and respect for the wild—a vivid reminder of the raw power of nature. Join us as we navigate the highs and challenges of life on Haida Gwaii!
