Week 8 Update | Living Remote & Alone in Haida Gwaii - Week of November 1st 2024

It’s hard to believe we’ve already been living remote for two full months with no restocks—and we still have six more months to go! This week has been packed with challenges and surprises. The rain and dark days have been relentless, with massive swells keeping us indoors more than we’d like. But, as soon as the weather broke, we jumped at the chance to explore and get a mental recharge.

We finally took out the sea kayak to visit a beach we’ve been eyeing for a while—one that gives us serious Tofino vibes. Haida Gwaii’s wilderness keeps surprising us, especially when we checked our trail cams this week and saw a massive black bear right near our river. It was a huge wake-up call for Emilie, reminding us of how truly isolated we are and how important it is to stay prepared.

Alongside exploring, we’re diving deeper into learning about the island’s unique history and ecosystems. Each day brings new experiences and lessons, and we’re grateful to share this journey with you all.
