Our True Worth: Living in God’s Eyes, Not the World’s
Today’s episode, where we delve into the profound truths about our worth and purpose as seen through the eyes of God. Drawing from the wisdom of St. John Berchmans, Mother Raphael Lubowidzka, and the Gospel of Luke, we will reflect on how our identity is deeply rooted in God’s knowledge of us, our call to imitate Christ’s mercy, and the transformative power of surrender to God’s will.
Segment 1: Our Worth in God’s Knowledge
St. John Berchmans reminds us of a fundamental truth:
"Our true worth does not consist in what human beings think of us. What we really are consists in what God knows us to be."
This statement calls us to detach from the opinions and judgments of the world, which often value external success, beauty, and accomplishments. Instead, our true value lies in being known and loved by God. This echoes the words of 1 Samuel 16:7:
“Man sees the appearance, but the Lord looks into the heart.”
God sees beyond our external actions and perceives the depths of our souls. He knows our struggles, our intentions, and our potential for holiness. By seeking to align our lives with His will, we begin to reflect His truth in our daily actions.
Segment 2: Surrender and Love at the Foot of the Cross
Mother Raphael Lubowidzka shares a deeply moving reflection on surrendering to God’s will alongside Mary:
"It seems to me that kneeling this moment before my Lord, concealed in the Holy Eucharist, as if next to my Mother beneath the cross, I surrender myself together with her for the accomplishment of God's most holy will in all things. I desire to love her with the heart of St. John the beloved disciple and to always abide with her. Together with St. John Berchmans I can say, 'I love Mary; therefore, I also expect to persevere in good, until the end.'”
This powerful imagery invites us to unite our lives with Mary and St. John at the foot of the Cross, surrendering all to Christ’s will. Through the Eucharist, we are reminded of Christ’s ultimate sacrifice and are called to respond with total love and trust, just as Mary did.
The Blessed Mother, the model of perfect discipleship, leads us closer to her Son. As St. John Berchmans expressed his love for Mary, we too are called to draw strength and perseverance from her intercession.
Segment 3: Imitating God’s Mercy
The Gospel of Luke challenges us to rise above human instincts and embrace divine mercy:
"But rather, love your enemies and do good to them, and lend expecting nothing back; then your reward will be great and you will be children of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. Be merciful, just as [also] your Father is merciful." (Luke 6:35-36)
This teaching reminds us that our actions should reflect God’s mercy and love, even to those who wrong us. True mercy demands selflessness, which is only possible when we let go of our attachment to worldly approval and focus on living as children of God.
Christ’s mercy on the Cross is our greatest example. He forgave His persecutors and prayed for their salvation, showing us how to love even in the face of hatred. By imitating this mercy, we manifest our true worth as God’s children.
Conclusion:
Our worth is not determined by human standards but by God’s knowledge of who we are. As St. John Berchmans reminds us, what matters is how God sees us. By surrendering ourselves to God’s will, as Mother Raphael encourages, we align our lives with His eternal purpose. And by imitating His mercy, as taught in Luke’s Gospel, we live out our identity as children of the Most High.
Let us strive to detach from the fleeting values of the world and anchor ourselves in God’s infinite love and mercy, finding our true worth in His gaze.
Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
You created us in Your image and know us intimately. Help us to find our true worth in Your love and not in the fleeting opinions of this world. Teach us to surrender ourselves completely to Your holy will, just as Mary and St. John did at the foot of the Cross.

Give us the grace to love our enemies and extend Your mercy to all, so that we may reflect Your kindness and become true children of the Most High. May we persevere in good and abide in Your love until the end.

Through the intercession of our Blessed Mother, we ask this in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns forever and ever. Amen.

Thank you for joining us in today’s episode. May you walk confidently in the knowledge of God’s love for you and reflect His mercy in all you do. Until next time, God bless you.
