Marie-Luise Vollbrecht @LuiseVollbrecht is a biologist and doctoral student at Humboldt University in Berlin, where her research focuses on the effects of environmental stressors such as oxygen deprivation on the brain and the behavior of weakly electric fish. In addition to her academic work, she is deeply committed to sociopolitical issues and is known for her controversial stance on the debate about gender and identity. Vollbrecht gained public attention in 2022 when her lecture on biological bisexuality was initially canceled after protests and later rescheduled with great media coverage. She sees it as her job to bring scientific facts into the discourse, even if they are controversial. In addition to studying biology, she has already been involved in international research projects and brings this perspective to her argument.

In our conversation, Vollbrecht explained why bisexuality is so central from a biological and social point of view and how she assesses the growing influence of trans activism, which she sometimes describes as "neo-religious." She expressed criticism of the Self-Determination Act and its possible consequences for women's rights and the protection of children. She questioned the interests and actors behind the trans lobby and spoke about the need for a productive and respectful debate that respects scientific principles. Vollbrecht emphasized that a stronger focus on biological facts and a differentiated approach to minorities could be the basis for constructive cooperation.

We exaggerate. No, really. A hyperbole is the literary form of exaggeration. We want to tell controversial topics in such a way that you feel like dealing with them.
Hyperbole is where you are. On Youtube, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Everyone does, you say. True, but we take your opinions so seriously that we've even built formats around them.

Nathaniel does not feel exclusively male or female, which presents her with many challenges in everyday life. The path to this realization was difficult. That is why she is now fighting for more visibility of nonbinary people in all areas. We asked Nathaniel your questions!
