On October 14, 2012, Felix Baumgartner jumped from a helium balloon at an altitude of 39,045 meters (128,085 feet) above the Earth's surface. He reached a maximum speed of 1,357.64 km/h (843.6 mph), breaking the sound barrier for the first time in human history.
