Volume 1: Chapter, 4 Munich

Hitler moves to Munich, Germany in 1912. He feels at home in the city as soon as he arrives and he spends the happiest period of his life there during the pre-World War I years. He supports himself by painting and still hopes to attend architectural school. Munich is the art center of Germany, which is one of the reasons Hitler is so attracted to the city. He studies political events and German foreign policy during this period and is still opposed to the German Alliance policies.

Hitler finds that very few people in Munich know about or care about the Habsburg situation and what is happening in Austria. They look at Austria only as a German state. They did not realize how close to disintegration it is and he calls this stupidity on their part.
