At first you might think it's Taiwan. That's what comes up on Google. But they're just the country with the fastest average. So then you might think it's some tech billionaire. But they have no need for it. The world's fastest data transfer speeds were just achieved a few weeks ago in a lab.

So for reference, the best fibre optic internet can get you around 1 Gigabit per second. It works by sending many streams of data on many wavelengths of light. Well now researchers at Aston Univesity have increased the amount of useable wavelengths. These new devices now help transfers 300,000 times faster.
