How to Train Your Dragon Director Defends Race-Swapped Casting

The live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon has been getting attention for the race-swapped casting in the movie, so much so the film’s director addressed it.

The decision feels like the studio is trying to prep an excuse as to why people will not like this movie. On the one hand the director said actress Nico Parker is simply the best for the role, but on the other hand one can’t deny the appearance of the actors playing a role is significant to the experience. If the filmmakers were just trying to make the best movie possible they wouldn’t have cast someone that could be perceived as just a diversity hire.
