Hugo Lowell: Elon Musk’s Presence in Trump Meetings Is Annoying Some People

WITT: “What is the truth behind Elon Musk? What are you hearing? You have headlines like he’s the guest that will never leave or conversely, right next to Trump with everything. Where is the truth?”

Lowell: “I think it is somewhere in the middle. He is not staying at Mar-a-Lago. He is staying off site according to our reporting. He is not always in Trump’s face. He is in big meetings and it is annoying some people in Trump world who have been there and felt they have done their time and they have a seat at the table and they see Musk and are like, what does he know about the MAGA agenda and the kind of people that we want to put in the government to dismantle the deep state. There is consternation there. On the other hand, there are people who have survived a long time in Trump world who tell me they don’t think Elon is going so overboard as to annoy Trump. That is one thing that Trump dislikes, people who are pushing too hard.”

WITT: “Lutnick did that?”

Lowell: “Yes. He wanted to get treasury commerce and he was telling Trump he needed to be at treasury even though Trump told him he would probably not be there. Didn’t appreciate that. You have to play the game. And Elon is good at playing internal politics which is a testament to why he is still there.”
