According to WTVR, Skinner shouted that he had hitchhiked 30 miles and needed help.

The mother called her husband, who told her to get a gun. When Skinner threw a landscaping stone through a glass door, the mom shot twice, hitting the intruder once in the neck.

"He was not invited here, he was not expected here, he had been told in the past that the daughter no longer wished to communicate with him," Agnew said.

Skinner was struck in the neck and remains hospitalized, according to authorities.
