Today we are taking the Piscifun Alijos 400 Saltwater/Freshwater Baitcasting Reel out to the rock fishing grounds in Southern California with our friend & outdoor write Derrek Stewart who has never used Slow Pitch Jigging tackle before. Our target is BIG rockfish solely using specialized light tackle slow pitch jigging gear. After having great success with the Piscifun Alijos 400 with the 6.6:1 gear ratio, I wanted to test the faster 8.1:1 gear ratio for this application so we went out to validate it.

I will say that we were all incredibly impressed by the performance of the reel for this application in particular. It held plenty of the 39lb jigging braid to easily reach the depths and the 8.1:1 gear ratio on this Grey & Gold option for the Alijos 400 was fantastic to work the jig, and fight the fish to the surface.
