The story of Echo and Narcissus is a tale from Greek mythology that explores themes of unrequited love, vanity, and the consequences of hubris.
Echo's Curse:

Echo was a beautiful nymph known for her captivating voice and talkative nature. However, she angered the goddess Hera by distracting her with incessant chatter while Zeus, Hera's husband, pursued other nymphs. As punishment, Hera cursed Echo to only repeat the words spoken to her, stripping her of her free speech.
Narcissus' Beauty and Vanity:

Narcissus was a stunningly handsome young man who captivated everyone who saw him. However, he was proud and cruel, rejecting all those who fell in love with him, leaving behind a trail of broken hearts.
Echo and Narcissus' Encounter:

One day, Echo saw Narcissus in the forest and instantly fell in love. She longed to speak to him but could only repeat his words. When Narcissus realized she could not express herself fully and that her love was unrequited, he rejected her cruelly. Devastated, Echo retreated to the woods, fading away until only her voice remained.
Nemesis' Revenge:

The goddess Nemesis, hearing the pleas of those Narcissus had scorned, decided to punish him. She lured Narcissus to a clear stream, where he saw his reflection for the first time. Entranced by his own beauty, Narcissus fell deeply in love with the image in the water, not realizing it was his own.
Tragic Endings:

Unable to leave the reflection, Narcissus wasted away, either dying of grief or falling into the water. In some versions, a flower—the narcissus—bloomed where he perished. Echo, meanwhile, continued to haunt the forests, her voice forever repeating the words of others.
