The Sultan's Last Prayer
This is the story of 1799, when the Tiger of Mysore, Tipu Sultan, fought his final battle against the British for the freedom of his motherland. It was a time when the kingdom of Mysore was one of the last hopes for India's independence.

Tipu Sultan was renowned for his intelligence, bravery, and patriotism. His rule was marked by equality for all religions. His army included Hindus, Muslims, and people of other faiths who fought shoulder to shoulder against the British. However, British cunning and the betrayal of traitors weakened Mysore's strength.

Beginning of the Story:
The fort of Srirangapatnam was surrounded by enemies. Tipu Sultan was discussing war strategies with his ministers and generals. The British commander, Lord Wellesley, had encircled the fort with a large army and modern weapons. But Sultan's resolve was unshakable.

One night, Sultan met his mother, Fatima Begum. She said:
"My son, the war has become difficult. Perhaps we should negotiate."

Sultan replied:
"Mother, a single day in the life of a lion is better than a hundred years in the life of a jackal. I cannot see my land enslaved."

Climax of the War:
On May 4, 1799, the British launched a decisive attack on the fort. Sultan's soldiers fought valiantly, but the British army was far too large. Sultan himself took up his sword and charged at the enemies. His battle strategies and bravery kept the enemies at bay for several hours.

However, a traitor, Mir Sadiq, showed the British a secret entrance to the fort. The enemies infiltrated the fort. Sultan was wounded but continued to fight until his last breath.

End of the Story:
When the battle was over, British soldiers found Sultan's lifeless body in the fort. As they approached him, they noticed that his fist was clenched tightly around a handful of soil. It was the soil of his homeland, which he refused to abandon even in death.

Lord Wellesley remarked:
"We have defeated a great king, but his bravery will never be forgotten."

Moral of the Story:
The story of Tipu Sultan teaches us that courage and sacrifice are essential for freedom. He gave his life but never let his land fall into slavery. Even today, Tipu Sultan's valor and patriotism are remembered, and the fort of Srirangapatnam stands as a testament to his sacrifice.
