Icelandic volcano erupts for seventh time in a year

A volcano near Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik, erupted late Wednesday for the seventh time in a year, creating a fissure nearly two miles long and spewing lava and smoke.

The eruption, smaller than previous ones, caused no disruption to air traffic or major infrastructure.

Authorities evacuated some areas near the Reykjanes peninsula, but Grindavik, a nearby fishing town, remains safe for now, NBC News has reported.
