How is this 40+ Year Old Light Bulb Still Working??

In this video we check out the Star Energy Saver lamp my grandpa installed in the garage back in the '80's.
It's still on it's original bulb, and has been exposed to temp and humidity swings for the past 40+ years.
Why is this bulb still working, when the Circlites I purchased in the late '90's have long since burned out.
Did I uncover a "Planned Obsolescence" conspiracy by GE, to make the newer bulbs burn out faster?
Or is grandpa's bulb just really lucky?
