Odepro are best known for their rather pricey range of professional hunting and outdoor flashlights, so I was pleased to see what their entry level £25 torch has to offer,

The quick answer is that this is not the cheapest torch out there for what it does, but it has a premium feel, both in the build quality and presentation. It is IP67 waterproof, rechargeable and is one of the brightest and most versatile compact sized torches I have yet tried.

In the box, you get the torch itself which weighs in at 75g and is sized just 133 x 26.2 mm, along with a magnetic charging cable, two batteries, a lanyard, belt case and user guide. No problems with the build quality, which is first rate and looks like it can withstand the heaviest treatment due to the armoured glass lens and aluminium alloy body casing.

As regards appearance, it has an attractive matt black finish with a small recessed lens on one end and a screw threaded end cap on the other giving access to the battery compartment. Midway is a metal pocket clip and jyst5 below the lens is the combined control button and multi-coloured status LED.

The flashlight is powered by a single removable type 18650 3000 mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Charging takes about five hours with the status LED changing colour when charged. When the torch is switched on the LED will indicate the battery level, the green light means 50%-100% power, flashing yellow/ green 50-30%, solid red 30 -10%, and flashing red light 0%-10% power. The battery life depends on the level the torch is set to but in general use, you should get several hours of runtime.

One of the selling points of the torch is the magnetic charging and this works well. The cable connector clips onto the magnetic mount firmly enough to resist gentle tugs but will detach itself should the torch fall over or the cable gets snagged. This is a mixed blessing as although it protects the torch and cable from accidental damage, it does mean that should the cable get lost or damaged then the torch is rendered useless unless an external charger is used.

Everything is controlled using the single button and this is simple and intuitive to use. When the torch is unlocked, long press the button to turn the torch on and scroll through the four brightness levels, Double click to turn on the strobing mode. When the torch is switched off for less than a minute it will return to the last mode used when switched on again. When not used for 60 seconds the torch will lock, long press the button to switch it on and enter high power turbo mode.

With an output of 1200 lumens and an effective range of about 300m, this is one of the brightest torches of this size I have used. The build quality is good and up to the usual Odepro standard. This is a high-quality compact torch, and well priced at just £25.

If you need a well made, simple to use but powerful compact torch, this could be a good buy.
