You Don't Need A Lobotomy (But Sometimes It Helps)

I Ran for County commission once. Another local politico asked me if I got the prerequisite lobotomy.

I knew it would be fun.

Lyrics

They say, “Hey, you’re in office, you must be on the take,
Got a suitcase full of money from some backroom mistake.”
But not every elected soul is living in the dark,
Some are busting their backs just trying to make their mark.

You lose your sleep, you lose your mind,
Some folks act like you’re a thief every time you sign.

You don’t need a lobotomy to be a politician,
But it helps when they throw you in that opposition.
Patience is a virtue, but mine’s running thin,
When you’re hated for trying to win.

The council chambers echo with shouts and groans,
Every decision feels like casting stones.
Some folks throw heat just ‘cause they don’t agree,
They forget I’m human, just like they oughta be.

Yeah, there are bad apples, I know it’s true,
But don’t paint every servant with the same damn hue.

You don’t need a lobotomy to be a politician,
But it helps when they treat you like you’re on a mission.
No gold in my pockets, no throne in my name,
Just trying to serve, but I’m stuck in the blame.

I’ve missed birthdays, lost years of sleep,
Made sacrifices most wouldn’t keep.
All for a job where they tear you apart,
Where loyalty and service can break your heart.

Now I’m not saying patience won’t get you through,
But sometimes the abuse makes you question the view.
Do you keep fighting for the good you believe?
Or throw up your hands and ask to leave?

But then you see someone smile, hear a “thank you” now and then,
And it fuels your fire to try again.

You don’t need a lobotomy to be a politician,
But it helps when they question every good intention.
Not every suit is corrupt, not every choice is greed,
Some of us are just planting seeds.

So here’s to the fighters, the ones who still care,
The ones who show up, who dare to be there.
You don’t need a lobotomy to take this ride,
But it helps when the world won’t let you decide.

“Yeah, they say patience is a virtue… but so is standing your ground. Sleep can wait; the work won’t.”
