Nationwide Alert: Germany Prepares Businesses for War Amid Rising Russian Tensions
A confidential document titled *"Operation Plan Germany"* has been leaked, revealing that the Bundeswehr, Germany's armed forces, is preparing for a potential conflict with Russia. The plan includes nationwide efforts to train German businesses for an anticipated crisis, which appears to point toward a large-scale military escalation between Germany and Russia.
The 1,000-page document outlines strategic measures for Germany to protect its critical infrastructure and ensure national security amidst rising tensions with Moscow over the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. A key focus of the plan is strengthening economic resilience, a challenge given Germany's reliance on affordable Russian energy, which is no longer accessible.
The Hamburg Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a seminar for local companies to help them prepare for potential wartime challenges. Lt. Col. Jörn Plischke, who led the event, advised businesses to train five additional truck drivers for every 100 employees. This recommendation stems from the fact that roughly 70% of truck drivers in Germany are from Central and Eastern Europe, regions that may be unavailable for labor during a conflict.
Plischke also emphasized the importance of contingency planning, including securing backup power sources like diesel generators and wind turbines, to maintain operations during a crisis. Businesses were urged to create detailed wartime employee plans to improve their chances of staying functional amid escalating tensions.
The urgency of these preparations is underscored by recent developments, such as President Joe Biden's authorization for Ukraine to use U.S.-made long-range missiles against Russian territory. This move has been described by Russian President Vladimir Putin as crossing a "red line" that could justify nuclear retaliation. Putin has previously warned of the possibility of nuclear strikes following NATO's increased involvement in the Ukraine conflict.
Concerns over hybrid warfare have also been amplified after two critical undersea cables in the Baltic Sea were severed this week. One of the damaged cables connects Germany to Finland, while the other links Lithuania to Sweden's Gotland Island.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius described the cable cuts as likely sabotage, stating, "No one believes that these cables were cut accidentally." Lithuania's navy has ramped up monitoring in the affected areas to prevent further incidents.
Swedish company Arelion, which operates one of the cables, is working with Swedish authorities and armed forces to investigate. The Swedish Prosecutor's Office has also launched a preliminary investigation into what it described as "suspected sabotage."
This series of events marks a significant escalation in tensions between Russia and Western nations, with fears of hybrid warfare and broader conflict becoming increasingly pronounced.
