Dragon Age: The Veilguard Player Drop-Off Sparks Concerns: Over 54% Decline From All-Time Peak

The player base for Dragon Age: The Veilguard is shrinking fast. According to SteamDB, the game's 24-hour peak player count has plummeted by 54.2% since its launch. This past weekend, the game managed only 40,974 concurrent players—a sharp drop from its all-time peak of 89,418.

This decline in player engagement isn’t just limited to Steam. Reports show that over half the player base hasn’t even completed half of the game. Updated achievement stats reveal minimal progress: 49.8% of players reached the Part 7: Fire, Feather, and Fade achievement, 38.3% completed Part 8: No Sacrifice Greater, and only 16.8% achieved Part 14: The Dread Wolf Rises. These numbers show improvement from earlier stats, but the pace of completion is still sluggish.

The game’s console performance doesn’t paint a better picture. On PlayStation, it debuted at a disappointing 40th on the True Trophies Weekly Top 40 chart, moving up slightly to 37th in its second week. On Xbox, it debuted in 25th on the True Achievements Top 40 chart and crept up to 24th in its second week. Third-week data for both platforms is yet to be revealed.

Adding to the mixed signals, BioWare recently shared stats about the game on X (formerly Twitter) but avoided including player numbers. However, a rumor from YouTuber Smash JT claims the game has crossed 1 million units sold. According to Smash JT, this figure comes from a source within BioWare, though he expressed skepticism about its accuracy.

With dwindling engagement numbers and unverified sales claims, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is struggling to maintain momentum in its critical early weeks. Will BioWare deliver a marketing push to turn things around, or is this decline a sign of deeper issues within the franchise?
