Driver watching a movie on his phone crashes into three Lee County deputies' cars

A deputy was injured in a crash early Sunday while helping with traffic control along I-75 near Exit 123 in Estero.

According to the Lee County Sheriff's Office, deputies were assisting the Florida Highway Patrol with traffic control on I-75 when the crash occurred.

LCSO said the driver was distracted while watching a movie on their cellphone before the crash.

A deputy suffered minor injuries from the crash but is expected to be OK, LCSO said.

The driver, identified as Calvin Engle, was in critical condition at Gulf Coast Medical Center, according to an LCSO report.

LCSO said the crash is currently under investigation.
