"YOU KNEW MY NATURE FROM THE BEGINNING!" | Golden Advice
High above the world, where the winds cut like icy knives and the air was thin as ghosts, a lone warrior trudged up the final steps to the summit of the mountain. His breath misted in front of him, his muscles screamed from the effort, but at last, he stood at the peak. He looked out over the lands below, victorious and alone, feeling every inch of his journey etched into his bones.
Just then, he saw a small, twisted form on the snow, shivering and struggling against the bitter cold. It was a snake, dark and glistening like an onyx stone, its scales dulled by frost, its movements sluggish and weak.
"Help me," the snake rasped, its voice barely more than a whisper. Its eyes, cold and piercing, looked up at him with something that almost resembled pleading. "Please, help me."
The warrior looked down, suspicion narrowing his gaze. He knew the nature of a snake, after all—had he not heard the tales, the warnings of treachery? With a hardened heart, he shook his head and turned away. "No, I will not help you," he said, coldly.
The snake’s mouth curved in a faint, tragic smile. "It matters not," it whispered. "I will die all the same."
Those words stopped the warrior in his tracks. He looked again at the creature, small and helpless, and a strange feeling stirred in his chest. *Perhaps,* he thought, *even a creature such as this can harbor kindness.* Slowly, he reached down, scooping the snake into his hand and tucking it close against his chest, letting his warmth seep into its frail body. Together, they began the long descent down the mountain, the warrior protecting the snake from the bite of the wind, cradling it with care.
When they reached the base of the mountain, the warrior knelt and gently laid the snake upon the ground, smiling to see the strength it had regained. "Go now," he said, proud of his choice to help, his eyes kind.
But in that very moment, the snake lunged forward, sinking its fangs deep into his hand. The warrior gasped, stumbling back as the venom surged through his veins, a fire hotter than any he had known. He fell to the ground, the world spinning and darkening, and with a voice twisted in agony, he cried out, "Why? Why would you do this?"
The snake slithered away, pausing only to look back over its shoulder. Its voice, cold and clear, echoed across the mountain path.
"You knew my nature from the beginning."
