In this episode of "Confessions from the Home Office", I interviewed my husband, Dr. Reggie O'Dell, to talk about the dynamics of our relationship as an entrepreneur and an academic. Reggie shares his story from a decade-long career in music to becoming an optical professional, and ultimately pursuing his lifelong passion for teaching by completing four degrees in just ten years. Now a history professor, Reggie discusses his love for teaching and his aspirations to write books about historical figures like John Brown and family land history at Smokemont.

We also discuss our very different professional lives and personalities. While my business involves constant decision-making and client management, Reggie enjoys the structured routine of teaching and the joy of daily classroom interactions. Our differences complement each other – my high-energy approach balanced by Reggie's calm demeanor, my constant conversation starters of "I have an idea" met with his voice of reason. Despite being "opposites" in many ways, we've found it works for us through mutual respect, shared (sometimes dark) humor, and being willing to support each other's individual paths.
