The Superintendent of a school district in northwest Oregon, and St. Helen’s High Principal have been put on leave after they allowed a teacher who was under investigation for the alleged sexual abuse of students, to continue to teach while being investigated.
St. Helens High School Principal Katy Wagner , and District superintendent Scot Stockwell were placed on leave and School board chairman Ryan Scholl resigned according to the Schools Facebook page.
The moves come after students and parents protested after the current teacher, and a former teacher at St. Helens were arrested and are facing charges. They are upset that the teacher was not put on leave during that time.
The teachers, 46-year old Eric Stearns and recently retired teacher 64-year old Mark Collins were each charged with multiple counts of sexual abuse according to the St. Helens Police.
Both teachers have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
