All of the gifts you bought will likely end up sitting unused becoming clutter or end up in the landfill (or donation boxes, thrift stores).
Not buying gifts (carelessly/compulsively spending hundreds to thousands) for anyone is a very good way avoiding putting yourself into a sinkhole you cannot escape from.
