Glendale police arrested two men suspected of following a man who withdrew $50,000 in cash to buy a truck before the money was grabbed from the car while the man was talking with the seller.
Police posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that 22-year-old Raymond Pouncy and 23-year-old Reginald Chatman were watching the man on Nov. 7 as he exited the bank and followed him to the site of the deal.
In a video that includes snippets of police body camera and traffic camera footage, the prospective buyer can be heard speaking telling an officer that the truck's owner was pulling a car out of their driveway so they could bring out the truck from the garage when they saw someone take something from the buyer's car before driving away.
The buyer and seller got into a car and followed the men suspected of taking the money. Traffic camera footage at 67th and Orangewood avenues showed two gray sedans speeding down the road a little after noon. The suspect vehicle reached 67th and Olive avenues, where it crashed into a trailer being towed by a pickup truck.
In the video posted by police, a witness to the crash can be heard telling officers, "There's money all over the street."
One man can be seen exiting the vehicle and grabbing a backpack from the trunk while fleeing, with the buyer chasing after him. The buyer can be heard saying he caught up to the man, who insisted he did not do anything wrong and would wait for the cops despite fleeing the scene of the crash.
Traffic camera footage showed another man, possibly the truck's seller, chasing after another man who fled in a slightly different direction. An officer pointed a gun at the second man and ordered him to lie on the ground on his stomach with his hands behind his back, body camera footage showed. The man complied with the orders and was handcuffed.
Maricopa County Superior Court records show Pouncy and Chatman were booked into jail, each with one count of third-degree burglary and theft. It was not immediately clear whether they remained in jail as of Thursday afternoon.
