The incident occurred when officers responded to a report that a suspect had pointed a firearm at the collar around 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 31, which was just hours after the motel was forced to shut down due to a failed health inspection, which required all residents to leave.

Police said the suspect in question was inside a vacant room in the motel, and he barricaded himself in a room. Officers negotiated with the suspect for about three and a half hours to persuade him to surrender peacefully, and the suspect refused all attempts to make him leave the room.

The suspect was identified as Scott Searly.

Officers obtained a warrant to enter the room and arrest the suspect for assault with a deadly weapon. Authorities say that while officers prepared to enter the room, the suspect partially exited the room and presented a handgun to officers.

This led to an officer involved shooting.

Searly then retreated into the room and negotiations continued for another hour.

Authorities say ultimately officers entered the room to check the welfare of the suspect. After entering the room, officers located Searly and arrested him.

An awaiting ambulance took Searly to the hospital for treatment. He was later discharged from the hospital and arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.

The investigation revealed Searly was in possession of three pneumatic handguns, which are pellet guns.

No officers were hurt during the incident.
