Index of Hydrogen Deficiency

The Index of Hydrogen Deficiency (IHD), also known as the Degree of Unsaturation, is a concept in organic chemistry that helps determine the number of rings and/or multiple bonds (double or triple) in a molecule. The IHD calculates the "deficiency" of hydrogen atoms in a molecular structure compared to a fully saturated hydrocarbon with the same number of carbon atoms.
