Having a Dead Faith

In this Bible lesson, we look at one of the most controversial passages in the Bible, James 2:14-26. However, instead of spending this lesson disproving false works-based gospels, we spend it understanding the purpose for which it was written, to emphasize that genuine saving faith will produce good works. Before delving in to the passage, we first define how a person is justified in God's eyes, after which we look at the main premise of the passage, that saving faith will produce works. Then, we look at the 6 illustrations of how genuine faith produces good works. We see that hypocritical faith doesn't practically profit others, and that it is vain and dead like the belief of the devils. Then, we see that genuine faith led Abraham to make his greatest sacrifice, it led Abraham to be called the friend of God, and it led Rahab to risk her life for the people of God. Finally, we close with a look at the simple illustration of a body that is dead.
