Wildermyth: Console Edition Xbox One Review (Rogue Gaming)
#Wildermyth #ConsoleEdition #RPG
The console edition of the critically acclaimed tactical-turn-based RPG, Wildermyth landed last month, and it does not disappoint!
Originally released on PC mid-2021, Wildermyth is a procedurally based storytelling RPG combining elements reminiscent of Dungeon & Dragons table-top gaming and resource management within a unique two-dimensional cartoon art style. For me, the style brings to mind paper-dolls and pop-up books.
In Wildermyth you create and build a band of heroes from core classes of warrior, hunter or mystic. Each with class and abilities that you choose and level-up as experience points are gained. But, be cautioned, your enemies gain experience as well!
The main story has your band of heroes exploring and developing uncovered regions to harvest resources with the additional option of upgrading defensive capabilities. In between combat sessions, you can manage and use these resources to enhance or create new items for your characters, ranging from weapons to armor or accessories.
Wildermyth uses an augment slot system for these items. For example, characters have a slot for a ring, a necklace, a belt, et cetera
At the heart of Wildermyth is the procedurally based storyline or side missions in addition to the main one. These side missions not only offer opportunities to gain experience but have direct impact on the individual character development. Plus, within the story you are given differing choices to select from; many in the form of dialog options.
Control of the game on a console is intuitive and overall well-structured with the various menu breakouts with my only complaint being that I found myself accidentally moving a character when I thought I was performing another action. A movement error can have serious consequences in a turn-based game!
I give Wildermyth: Console Edition 9 out of 10.
Wildermyth: Console Edition is developed and published by Worldwalker Games, LLC and Whisper Games with console edition port by Auroch Digital. The console edition is available for Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Wildermyth: Console Edition was played on an Xbox One and a review code was provided for this report!
