St. Gertrude the Great calls the Sacred Heart a “glowing furnace of Love,” an image that invites us to find our refuge in the overwhelming mercy of Christ. Similarly, J.R.R. Tolkien, reflecting on the Eucharist, identifies it as "the one great thing to love on earth," offering us a romance and fidelity that satisfies the deepest longings of the human heart.
Today, we’ll explore how these devotions not only draw us closer to Christ but transform our understanding of life’s mysteries, as Ecclesiastes 11:5 reminds us of the work of God that is beyond human comprehension.

St. Gertrude's prayer portrays the Sacred Heart as both a “furnace of love” and a sanctuary. This duality invites us to experience both the intensity of divine love and the peace of a secure refuge. This devotion calls us to surrender, recognizing that the warmth of Christ’s love is an invitation to trust Him entirely.
