Warnings from History: Avoiding Spiritual Pitfalls (1 Corinthians 10)
⛅ Good morning everyone! ⛅
1st Corinthians 10 Bible Study Session (See this note; my screen share froze up during the study, but it did not mess up my teaching. Have a blessed day.)
Jared led a Bible study session on 1st Corinthians, chapter 10, focusing on Israel's apostasy and the sacramental nature of worship. He emphasized the importance of not lusting after evil things, avoiding idolatry, and not committing sexual immorality. He also cautioned against tempting Christ and complaining, as these actions led to destruction in the past. The session concluded with a prayer and a reminder that the Lord is their shepherd.
Understanding the Old Testament in Christianity
Jared discussed the importance of understanding the Old Testament and the Christian faith. He emphasized the use of the phrase "I do not want you to be unaware" by Paul, which introduces vital matters. He explained that the liberation of Israel from Egypt by Moses prefigured the liberation from sin by Christ. He also linked the events of the Passover with the Eucharist, as established by Jesus. Jared then discussed the lessons from the Old Testament, emphasizing the need to avoid repeating past mistakes, such as idolatry and sexual immorality. He concluded by urging the audience to flee from idolatry and to judge for themselves.
Communion and the Eucharist Explained
Jared discussed the meaning of communion in the context of the Eucharist, emphasizing that it represents an actual participation in the body and blood of Christ. He explained that the English word "communion" is the correct translation and signifies fellowship, association, community, and joint participation. He also clarified that the Israel of Judaism differs from the faithful Israel, the Church. Lastly, he warned against worship contrary to or in competition with the Eucharist, as it could provoke the Lord to jealousy.
1st Corinthians Study and Prayer
Jared concluded the study session by discussing the upcoming topic of 1st Corinthians, chapter 11, which will focus on the conduct of women and the unity at the Eucharist. He mentioned that the study will either take place on Sunday or Monday, depending on the availability of the group. Jared also led the group in prayer, expressing gratitude for their participation and emphasizing the importance of living according to the teachings of Christ. He encouraged the group to share the studies with others and to follow him for more content.
