OURO PRETO, A STUNNING COLONIAL CITY!

In this video we show you the amazing, historic city of Ouro Preto. We start our day by first visiting the most important square of the city called Praça Tiradentes. This ie were you will find a statue of Tiradentes erected in the middle of the square and right in front of the statue of Tiradentes, you have the Museu da Inconfidência. The museum is very interesting and is dedicated to the Inconfidência movement which Tiradentes was its leader. There are also a lot of other interesting items in the museum such as furniture, painting, sculptures, statues, etc. all from the 18th century. There is also a section of the museum dedicated to the works of the famous sculptor and architect Aleijadinho. Next we passed by a museum called Casa dos Contos which is the building where taxes used to be collected and has now been turned into a museum. Next stop was at a church which is famous for being the richest church in Ouro Preto due to the amount of gold that you will find in this church. The church is called Basílica Matriz de Nossa Senhora do Pilar and it is believed that more than half a ton of gold has been used in the construction of this church! Next stop was Igreja de São Francisco de Assis which is where you will find another remarkable work from Aleijadinho and also his father who was an architect too. After visiting the structure of Igreja de São Francisco de Assis, we also visited the artisanal market which is right across the street from the Igreja de São Francisco de Assis and that's where you will find a lot of handcraft made of the same stone that Aleijadinho woudl use for his sculptures; the stone is called soap stone of "Pedra Sabão" in Portuguese. After the market we visited another location which again has a lot to do with Aleijadinho. This place is called Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Conceição and it is the church where you have the museum of Aleijadinho and also where Aleijadinho and his father are buried. Before going inside this church we also had a wonderful surprise from some students doing a school trip which was an amazing encounter :)
Our last stop was at a church called Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Rosário which was built by the slaves for the slaves since at the time they were not allowed to go to the other churches. Throughout the video we also talk to you about the historic facts, population, and a lot of other interesting topics about Ouro Preto. We hope you enjoy the video :)
