#331 | Wes-Del Community Schools Wastewater Issues Update! | The Political Spotlight
* Documents Link: https://bit.ly/331WesDelWasteWaterDocs . . .
This 331st episode of 'The Political Spotlight' is a 'Special Update' concerning the ongoing wastewater issues that the Wes-Del Community Schools in northwestern Delaware County, Indiana, have been dealing with.
The school corporation has dealt with several government agencies/departments concerning the issues over the last couple of years. Those agencies/departments are:
- the Indiana Department of Environmental Management.
- the Delaware County Commissioners.
- the Delaware County Redevelopment Commission.
- the Delaware County Board of Health.
- the Delaware County Regional Waste District.
- and others.
The Indiana Department of Environmental Management was getting to the point where, if the wastewater issues weren't corrected, it would start issuing fines to the school system. During that time, there were a couple of different plans to address the issues, and at times, it seemed as if the problems were just about to be solved.
The Delaware County Commissioners offered $400,000 to the school to help fix the problem, but the school corporation never collected the money. After an extended period of no contact, the money was reallocated to another project. In another situation, the Delaware County Board of Health had a sizeable grant to offer the school. However, that money was used on other items besides addressing the wastewater issue! Whenever it looked like a solution had been found, something would come up at the last moment, and plans would change.
People started asking questions when, at the same time, the school was spending money on sports-related repairs. Then came a meeting in May of 2024, where the superintendent of the School Corporation asked the Delaware County Redevelopment Commission for money to help with the wastewater situation. During his time in front of the Commission, a few things that seemed a bit off came to light, but even though some questions lingered, the Commission initially agreed to help the school corporation.
A month later, an attorney for the Commission strongly advised them to reconsider the offer to help because of various issues she found! She provided information that seemed very concerning. The Redevelopment Commission rescinded its offer to help, and several people contacted 'The Political Spotlight' asking for a review of what was happening.
From there, it only got more bizarre. A letter was sent to the Redevelopment Commission demanding that they pull a video offline showing the attorney giving her information to the Commission. Parents from the school system started calling and asking for help to wade through everything that was happening and get to the bottom of it.
Host Kristopher H. Bilbrey first addressed this issue in episode 304, broadcast on Thursday, October 10, 2024. The episode was called: "Wes-Del Community Schools Sh*t Show!" To watch that initial episode 304, click the following link: https://youtube.com/live/T5rMsI2-lBA . . .
On Friday, October 11, 2024, Bilbrey filed formal record requests with the various government agencies/departments involved with this; after several weeks, he finally received everything he had requested.
This 'Special Update' episode is the follow-up to episode 304.
Bilbrey will provide the audience with a timeline of events by providing the requested records as exhibits. He will break down everything he and the team have heard from various sources connected to the situation. Lastly, he will offer his commentary on what took place and give his thoughts on who or what is to blame if someone or something is, in fact, at fault.
